Director – Enterprise Information Management

Location: New Haven, CT

The Director, Enterprise Information Managements role is to design, plan, monitor, and improve the organizations Data Management functions. The central objective of this role is to ensure that the organizations Data Management disciplines are running effectively and meeting the business needs regarding data. With the growing push of data and information being used as corporate assets, serving as integral platforms for generating revenue and competitive advantages, this leader must be able to understand both the technical points of Data Management, as well as the business drivers and needs regarding data.

This position is also responsible for the development of policies, procedures, working practices and training required to ensure compliance with legislation around the management of records, and all aspects of holding, use and disclosure of data.

Job Responsibilities
Enterprise Information Management (EIM) function:

  1. Identifies and manages EIM resources needed for the planning, development, and delivery of EIM services and management of data warehouse systems & services.
  2. Engages with and influences senior level stakeholders and project teams through change management processes, ensuring that the data is managed to agreed levels of quality and integrity.
  3. Takes full responsibility for budgeting, estimating, planning and objective setting regarding EIM capabilities and services in collaboration with peer IT Services areas.
  4. Plans and manages implementation of processes and procedures, tools and techniques for governing, architecting, managing and delivering data along with managing the performance of automated data systems and services.
  5. Aligns the contribution of EIM services to clearly stated business and financial goals and performance targets.
  6. Monitors EIM performance and takes corrective action where necessary and in line with policies.
  7. Develops new methods and organizational capabilities (including automation) for the management of data and data services.
  8. Establishes and communicates the organization’s information/data management strategy, developing it as an integrated part of the overall business strategy.
  9. Leads execution and ongoing revisions to data governance implementation projects and ensures that uniformly recognized and accepted data definitions are developed and applied throughout the organization.
  10. Directs the management of information resources and works with stakeholders at various levels within the organization, specifically those who are responsible for the acquisition of information, its safe storage and disposal, and those who need it for decision making and reporting.

Information Architecture:

  1. Defines and establishes the enterprise-wide information architecture; ensures that information required to support business need is accurately modelled; and specifies at a strategic level the data subjects needed to support future business.
  2. Advises the Data Architect around the design of the overall enterprise information architecture. Facilitates collaboration between the Data Architect and the Enterprise Architect to ensure alignment of the information architecture with the overall enterprise design.
  3. Assumes responsibility for compliance with regulations, standards and codes of good practice relating to data, information, documentation, and records management.
  4. Identifies new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace and to represent data as a strategic business asset. Evaluates the extent to which the company could invest in and employ latest technologies in the big data, data analytics, and business intelligence space.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Demonstrated interest and aptitude in data, metrics, analysis and trends.
  2. Experience managing initiatives including the internal development of information management tools.
  3. Expert knowledge of the methodologies involved in the procurement, modelling, analysis and use of data.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  5. Past data strategy and management experience within the insurance industry.
  6. Intently knowledgeable in information management for the Life & Annuity industry including information security, risk and compliance.
  7. Expert knowledge of the enterprise uses of data and end-to-end data flow within the enterprise.
  8. Expert knowledge of database software applications, financial modeling tools, and/or actuarial/statistical modeling tools.

Systems and Technical Knowledge

  1. Having knowledge and experience regarding Life & Annuity platforms is a plus.
  2. Must be knowledgeable and experienced with modernized data management platforms and technologies (on and off-premise).
  3. Must be knowledgeable and experienced regarding EIM tools needed to support best practices in Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Management, Data Security, Data Movement, Data Provisioning and Data Reporting & Analytics.
  4. Must be knowledgeable and experienced with interfacing and supporting key business platforms regarding ERP, CRM, Policy Administration, IT Services Management, etc.

Education: BS in related field (MBA preferred) or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Experience: 10+ years as an Information management leader, Data Architect or equivalent combination of related experience.

Certifications: Certifications in Information Management tools and practices such as CBIP, DASCA, IBM Certified Data Engineer, IICS, etc. are a plus, nice to have.
